Vietnam Pilot

When and Where?

The first NextGen Awards and Mentors Contest is happening now, nationwide in Vietnam! Contest deadline is October 15, 2007, and the Mentor and Leadership Network will launch in January 2008. NextGen will expand to other countries later in 2007. Stay tuned!

Why Vietnam?

The November 2006 acceptance of Vietnam into the WTO and its hosting of the APEC Summit, puts a new spotlight on Vietnam as a country of great opportunity and change. It has a buoyant economy growing at 8.4 % annually and the 2nd fastest growing mobile phone market in the world. Over half of Vietnamís 84 million people are under the age of 26. But unlike most developing countries Vietnam has a 90% literacy rate. These factors combined with outstanding community leadership make Vietnam an outstanding choice as the lead country for NextGen Programs. Other countries will be added in the Fall of 2007 and 2008.

Who is involved?

NextGen involves a diversity of community organizations, corporations and foundations at both the international and grassroots country level. The initial pilot program is launched under the auspices of Cyber Century Forum (a non-profit US based 501c3 public foundation). The NextGen VIETNAM PILOT is spearheaded by VietnamNet in cooperation with other leading corporations and organizations that support programs and activities in one or more of the following areas: Improving Health; Expanding Education; Sustaining the Environment.
